AQUEST CORPORATION designed, supplied and installed a dry media, packed-bed, gas-phase adsorption scrubber to control toxic volatile organic compound (VOC) and hazardous air pollutant (HAP) emissions from a capped landfill in Massachusetts. The gas / vapor mixture is passed through a bed of activated carbon media, whereby the VOCs / HAPs are removed from the air stream by adhering to the highly porous surface of the adsorption media. The system size, flow rate, media type and capacity were selected to suit the specific gas composition and to provide the site a minimum expected media life of 12-months. The unit
was pre-filled with media, dropped into place, and ducted in-line with the existing fan and landfill gas ventilation piping.
